Music Ministries at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church
Sanctuary Choir
The 25-member Sanctuary Choir at Thomas Memorial leads in worship every Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. service. The variety of traditional and contemporary music sung by the choir is designed to address the varied musical interests of all church members. The choir meets weekly at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening for a time of practice and fellowship. The Sanctuary Choir does not meet for rehearsal during the summer months. The Sanctuary Choir maintains an open enrollment policy. New members are welcome at any time (high school juniors through adulthood).
Silver Chords
Senior Adults at Thomas Memorial enjoy the Silver Chords choir and drama group. The Silver Chords meet on the first, second, & third Thursday at 11:00 a.m. for a time of fellowship and practice followed by lunch. This group of energetic seniors provides special music and drama at various times during the year at the 11:00 a.m. service, the Sunday evening 6:00 p.m. service, and for special events. New members are welcome at any time.
Adult Bell Choir
For those older youth and adults who are interested in a challenging opportunity to participate in the instrumental aspect of a music ministry, the Adult Handbell Choir of Thomas Memorial may provide that focus of service. The Adult Handbell Choir meets every first and third Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The choir does not practice during the months of June and July. This choir is taking a hiatus, plans are to resume in the future.
Children’s Music Makers Choir
The Music Makers Choir at Thomas Memorial is for children ages 4 years through first grade. The choir meets on the first, second, 8 third Sunday afternoons from 5:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. for a time of Bible and music study. The Music Makers perform throughout the year for Sunday morning and Sunday evening services. New members are always welcome.
Children’s Young Musicians Choir
The Young Musicians Choir at Thomas Memorial is for children in grades 2-5. The choir meets on the first, second, and third Sunday afternoons from 5:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. for a time of Bible and music study. The Music Makers perform throughout the year for Sunday morning and Sunday evening services. New members are always welcome.
Both the Music Makers and Young Musicians choirs are encouraged to participate in the children’s Kingdom Kids Ministry that meets each Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Special Programs
The music ministry at Thomas Memorial includes three major special performances throughout the year – an Easter Cantata, a summer Patriotic Special, and a Christmas Cantata. Each performance features the musical talents of the Sanctuary Choir, solos, duets, and other individual and group specialties. The Silver Chords and Children’s Choirs also participate in these specials.
The Silver Chords choir has developed a special Palm Sunday drama that involves a reenactment of the Last Supper. This group is also developing several short plays that will be presented in a dinner theatre setting.
